Meet Team Mochila

Ryan Dunphy

Senior Director of Operations, Dallas

Start date‍

October 2019.

Hometown

Minneapolis, MN. I grew up in the Midwest, then headed to the West Coast for college at University of Southern California. Since then, I’ve had the opportunity to live and work across the US (Wisconsin, Vermont, New Jersey), as well as in Mexico. And I now call Texas home.

First (or worst) job

My first job was coaching the next generation of Major League Soccer stars to come out of Minnesota (aka coaching my local youth soccer team) at age 14, along with my mom. A fun gig.

Favorite sports team(s)

The four Minnesota-based professional sports teams from MLB, the NBA, NFL, and NHL: the Minnesota Twins (baseball), Minnesota Timberwolves (basketball), Minnesota Vikings (football), and Minnesota Wild (hockey). I especially love going to baseball games and watching the Twins play!

Hidden talent

I can speak Spanish pretty proficiently. Prior to moving to Mexico to lead operations at our new warehouse, I only had a high school background in Spanish, but using my language skills on the job definitely motivated me to brush up on this and improve pretty quickly…so I am pretty proud of this one.

Guilty pleasure

Goldfish crackers and Krankys - a Mexican candy somewhat equivalent to chocolate-covered Rice Krispies treats, but with corn.

Favorite kind of logistics project / specific project you’ve worked on or problem you’ve helped solve

Definitely getting our Mexican warehouse up and running. I moved to Mexico, learned Spanish, and started operations in a foreign country. We had to move fast - creating a process that could quickly scale, while also building and leading a brand new team that could handle a large amount of volume quickly. All while in a foreign country, in a foreign language. And also while continuing to exceed our clients’ expectations for accuracy, speed, and customer experience. It was a big project, and I’m very proud of what we built and accomplished.
